Best Houseplants For Air Quality

Plants are so intricate, from their detailed parts to how they function. They are usually seen as decor but what many people don't realize is that they can act as a natural air purifier! This is great for those, aka me, who have bad allergies to air pollutants and dust. It also makes a huge impact on your health! If you don't have a green thumb, don't worry! I've compiled a short list of easy-care plants that will boost the quality of your air in no time!

1. Dwarf Palm

If you're looking for an easy-care plant, this is the one! The best part about palms is that they are ranked one of the best air purifiers, according to research conducted by NASA.

Prevented pollutants: benzene and formaldehyde

Care: medium to low indirect light, water when soil is mostly dry

Discretion: please ignore the condition of my palm! My pesky cat has been chewing on the stems...smh.

2. Spider Plant

I'm fairly new to spider plants because of their strange appearance but I've recently gotten into them! They are basically champion air cleansers as they remove up to 90% of harmful pollutants, like formaldehyde. Also, they are animal-safe so you can have as many as you want!

Prevented pollutants: formaldehyde, xylene, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide

Care: medium light, water moderately when they are younger than avyear; when older than a year, water when soil is mostly dry

3. Aloe Vera

This is a personal favorite! Not going to lie, I've watered this guy about twice a year. Before you judge, he is thriving (besides the ends where my cat nibbled)! Aloe is a great plant because it takes in carbon dioxide at night, thus releasing oxygen.

Prevented pollutant: formaldehyde

Care: medium indirect light, light watering

4. Heart Leaf Philodendron

This plant is literally my prized possession, along with my monstera. Heart Leaf is such a beautiful addition to any home and is rather easy to care for! Like the others, this plant does a great job at removing formaldehyde for the air, and in mass quantities.

Prevented pollutant: formaldehyde

Care: medium to low indirect light, water when soil is moderately dry
