This past Sunday I finally visited Longwood Gardens and was not disappointed! I have been fairly open about my mental health recently so being able to expose myself to this literal wonderland was so helpful. Seriously, for anyone struggling I highly recommend placing yourself in a safe environment that you know you can thrive in. Luckily for me, this trip was planned for my Plant Form & Function class.
The only thing I could think about was how on earth are they able to keep that many plants alive?? Like, I can barely care for the plants I have now because of how little free time I have. And even more puzzling, they have so many exotic plants that shouldn't grow in this region but they are growing so well! They had tons of Spanish Moss which amazes me because I suck at caring for those things.
ALSO they had greenhouses dedicated to specific plant families! My favorite was the bonsai hall because they had well-grown species that have been training for over 100 years. I can't even keep one live for a year so...
Can we please talk about how beautiful the property is?? If my future house doesn't look like this then I failed. Granted, I definitely won't have the money to afford such a beautiful property but I can dream.
One thing I loved was how supportive they were of the bees! They had multiple books for sale about saving the bees, as well as plants that were swarming with them! That is definitely something I can get behind.
